Pre and Post Natal Care

Prenatal care
Many factors affect a woman’s pelvic stability, postural control and proprioception in the perinatal stages of life. These factors include hormonal changes, the forward movement of the mother’s centre of gravity, and associated muscle and tissue stretching as the baby grows.
Scientific evidence supports the links between stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and back pain, furthermore if the pregnant woman experiences incontinence during their pregnancy they are more likely to be incontinent in the postnatal period. For a new or expectant mother this is important to address before it becomes a problem.
Postnatal care
Once a baby is born a mother is keen to return to optimal function and form. This specifically involves strengthening and restoring her abdominal, back and pelvic floor muscles to help deal with the increased physical activity related to the care of her new baby, and potentially to help prepare for any subsequent pregnancies.
