GLA:D® Program

Hip & Knee Osteoarthritis

The GLA:D® Program (Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark) is a physiotherapist-led education and exercise program for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis, suitable for all symptom levels.

This clinically informed program focuses on improving movement quality, strength, and joint stability to support long-term symptom management and confident daily movement.

About the Program

GLA:D® combines evidence-based education with progressive, supervised exercise that translates directly into everyday activities.

By improving muscle strength, neuromuscular control, and habitual movement patterns, the program aims to: - Reduce pain and symptoms - Improve joint stability and function - Optimise movement efficiency - Slow symptom progression - Delay or avoid surgical intervention

Research demonstrates favourable long-term outcomes in both pain and function. (Skou et al., 2018)

No referral from your doctor is required.

Program Inclusions

Initial Assessment

An individual physiotherapy assessment to explain the program and assess baseline pain, function, and movement capacity.

Education Sessions (Included)

Two small-group sessions covering osteoarthritis education, joint stability, and strategies to maintain improvements.

Exercise Sessions

  • 10 one-hour group sessions
  • Physiotherapist-led neuromuscular training focused on strength, control, and movement quality

Follow-Up Consultation

A 3-month review appointment to reassess progress and support long-term outcomes.

Medicare & Private Health

  • A doctor’s referral is not required
  • Medicare rebates may be available if deemed appropriate by your GP
  • Some private health funds provide cover for Group Physiotherapy / GLA:D™ Australia (Item Code 560)
