Bones & Balance

Physio‑Led Bone Loading For Skeletal Health And Falls Prevention.

Strong Bones offers a unique, evidence-based solution for individuals seeking to enhance their skeletal health and minimize fracture risk. The program is designed to be accessible and effective, integrating the latest research to deliver measurable benefits for bone strength, posture, and overall physical function.

Bones & Balance is a clinically designed, focused on improving bone mineral density and physical function. It is particularly suited to postmenopausal women with osteopenia or osteoporosis, or those aiming to prevent bone loss.

Health fund claimable. No referral required.

Clinical Rationale

The programme is informed by high‑quality evidence, including the LIFTMOR randomised controlled trial (Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, 2018), which demonstrated that appropriately prescribed high‑intensity resistance and impact training can significantly improve bone mineral density at the hip and lumbar spine.

This approach provides a non‑pharmacological strategy to stimulate bone adaptation while also improving strength, balance, and functional capacity.

Clinical Focus

  • Targeted loading of the hip and spine
  • High‑intensity resistance and impact exercises
  • Strength, core stability, posture, and balance training
  • Falls and fracture risk reduction

All sessions prioritise safety, technique, and progressive loading under physiotherapy supervision.

Programme Structure

An individual physiotherapy assessment is required before commencing your strong bones class ensuring:

  • You understand the key programme concepts
  • Are able to safely and optimally perform lifting techniques
  • Appropriate modifcations to exercises are made to your individual needs
  • Your baseline measures are recorded providing a safe starting point
  • Fulfil physiotherapy board and private health fund requirements

  • Warm‑up and stretching

Attendance & Adaptation
